This afternoon our crews with auto aid from Alpine and Kent City Fire Departments responded to a reported structure fire on JoEllen in the Village.
First arriving fire units located smoke in the center two apartments of the four apartment complex. Upon further investigation a small fire was located in the wall space of the center apartments. The preliminary cause of the fire was determined to be from some plumbing working that was done in the building earlier today.
It appears that there are several other posts in various different sites stating that the fire department had the power turned off and tenants have been displaced and we didn’t provide any assistance. First of all no power was ever turned off because the fire did not affect and power sources. Consumers was on-scene and agree with that decision. Only the center two apartments suffered any damage and that damage was very minimal. The fire was put out using less than 10 gallons of water.
Tonight after clearing several other accident calls the building where the fire was at was checked. All units had power and appeared have been occupied still.
I can’t thank the hard working crew of the Sparta Fire Department and our assisting departments for their quick actions to stop this fire before it became something worse.
